Iced Earth

La figura central de Iced Earth es el guitarrista y compositor Jon Schaffer En un primer momento, Schaffer formó la banda bajo el nombre de Purgatory mientras vivía en Columbus (Indiana), pero cuando se mudó a Florida se vio obligado a cambiar el nombre de la banda debido a que otro grupo de la zona se llamaba igual. Fue entonces cuando renombró a la banda Iced Earth, en honor a un amigo suyo que murió en un accidente de moto. Más tarde escribiría la canción "Watching Over Me" en memoria de dicho amigo.
La banda grabó su primera demo titulada "Enter The Realm", la cual despertó en interés de la discográfica Century Media. El debut de la banda titulado simplemente "Iced Earth" se extendió en 1991 firmemente a lo largo del suelo europeo, mientras que en América del Norte el mercado del metal iba pronto a sufrir un cambio drástico. A pesar de la presión del público, Iced Earth consiguió gustar entre el público americano debido a su persistencia.
